NYU Residency Program
Since its inception in August 2019, the NYU Teacher Residency Program (TRP) has recruited and developed great teachers
for two high-needs schools: John F. Kennedy MS and Palm Beach Lakes HS. Residents were paired with an experienced
and clinical education-credentialed mentor teacher who was paid a supplement of $4,500. Mentor teachers shared their
classrooms, coached, and helped residents build instructional efficacy through the gradual release model throughout the
school year.
Residents learned to:
• Manage classroom procedures and use equitable classroom management strategies
• Establish respectful and productive relationships with students and their families
• Use formal and informal assessment data to monitor student progress toward learning targets
• Differentiate instruction to challenge students and meet diverse student needs
After completing the program, the residents transferred to a permanent teaching position at their host school or another
comparable school in the District for an additional two years. Eighteen residents have participated in the program, with 15
out of 18 earning a Master’s Degree. Seven residents remain teachers in the District. While the NYU TRP ended in FY24,
overall, the program was successful.

Florida Future Educators of America and Teachers of Tomorrow Programs
The District supports the Florida Future Educators of America and Teachers of Tomorrow
programs, which provide hands-on, classroom-based experiences for elementary, middle, and high
school students to become aware of careers in education and nurture their interest in teaching. The
District currently has 103 schools participating, an increase of 32 from last year. The goal is to have
a program in every school.
