Supporting Families
The District values the collaboration between parents and/or guardians, and school staff as instrumental in
the promotion of a positive environment for learning and developmental growth for their students.
The Department of Multicultural Education facilitated four regional Family Engagement Nights in collaboration
with the Department of Federal and State Programs during FY19. Over 562 families attended one of four
events, representing 956 students receiving information and backpacks containing supplies and books.
During these Family Engagement Night, content was provided in the following languages: English, Spanish,
Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Q’jano’bal, and Mam.
The Welcome Center assisted over 280 families during FY19 by facilitating 121 student registrations, providing
assistance to families affected by hurricanes, and arranging vaccinations for 78 students through bi-monthly
visits from the Immunization Van.
In collaboration with TRiO from the Palm Beach State College, the Welcome Center hosted four-targeted for
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Nights for English-language learner (ELLs) throughout the
District.
In addition, to keep families engaged in FY19 and FY20 the District did the following:
The District promoted parental involvement through culturally and linguistically responsive practices
to support family engagement.
The District encouraged flexible scheduling practices to support parents and/or guardians’ ability to
attend meetings and school activities.
The District provided parents and/or guardians with educational tools to support the academics and
personal well-being through online educational programs and parent trainings.
The District promoted school staff communication with parents and/or guardians regarding their
children at all levels of academic, social-emotional, and health related concerns.
The District encouraged parents and/or guardians to participate in the Wellness Promotion Policy
adoption development, the Healthy School Team initiatives at their child’s school, and to attend
District’s Wellness Promotion Task Force meetings.
