MIGRATION
District Windows computers are being upgraded to Microsoft’s latest operating
system, Windows 11. Due to the upcoming retirement of Windows 10 on
October 14, 2025, IT and School Techs have begun the efforts of updating all
eligible devices to Windows 11. In July, IT’s Application Services Team made
a Windows 11 image available for deployment and in the 7 months since,
approximately 13,000 devices are on the new operating system. With over
53,000 devices that support Windows 11, there are about 40,000 more devices
left to upgrade.
All newly purchased devices will be delivered with Windows 11 preinstalled. We
anticipate an acceleration in the number of upgrades throughout the second
semester and over the summer. The upcoming 24-25 school year will be our
last with Windows 10 and we are on track to achieve our goal of having zero
active Windows 10 devices remaining by August 2025.
