Conversely, access to accelerated (AP, IB, AICE, & DE) courses is increasing for Black (9 points),
Hispanic (6 points), and White (9 points) high school students; however, representation has remained
similar between FY22 and FY23. These data represent the currently scheduled students. Final FY23
data will be available at the start of the next school year.
Student Academic Support Plan
The Student Academic Support Plan (SASP) codifies the District’s approach to addressing
instructional gaps. Disparities in student achievement existed before COVID-19, but COVID-19 has
widened those instructional gaps. Despite these challenges, the District has a unique opportunity
to rethink both short and long-term academic support to increase student achievement and to
collaborate across departments to leverage resources.
The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) provided federal funds
to the District to address learning loss and provide support for academic acceleration. The funds
target resources using a tiered approach for the neediest students and schools. They also address
teaching expertise at critical points in students’ education with professional learning and strategic
support for teachers.
The District identified a model that includes factors found to be predictive of barriers to student
growth. The components of this model are school demographics, student achievement, and staff
experience. The plan addresses the risk factors associated with these indicators by providing a
menu of tiered interventions and supports to accelerate student learning, close achievement gaps,
and prevent failure before it occurs.
The areas identified in the SASP establish a framework for accountability and continuous
improvement while providing clear direction and focus on improving student achievement for all
students. The following areas identified below are connected to the State Accountability System for
student achievement:
• K-3 Literacy - All students of each racial/ethnic group will read independently on grade level
by the end of third grade.
• Algebra 1 - All students of each racial/ethnic group will complete Algebra I EOC.
• Proficient in Mathematics, Reading, and Writing - All students of each racial/ethnic group will be
proficient in mathematics, reading, and writing as measured by the FLDOE State Accountability
system.
• SAT - All schools will increase the performance of students of each racial/ethnic group taking
the ACT and SAT, emphasizing underrepresented populations.
• Graduation - All schools will increase graduation rates for all students.
School Choice
The District is proud to offer more than 330 Choice and Career programs to students in grades
PK-12. These programs provide a variety of learning experiences that lead to college and career
readiness and can put students on a path to success as early as elementary school.
The District continues to be a leader in the state and nation regarding participation and performance
in Career & Technical Education programs. We are among the top school districts in Florida for the
number of International Baccalaureate continuums.
