Teaching with Technology Trailblazers

The Teaching with Technology Trailblazer program was created to
build the capacity for teachers to support other teachers as they
integrate technology into the classroom. Through the program,
teachers were provided with technology tools and professional
development that aligned technology with a standard-based
curriculum. Teaching with Technology Trailblazers were the first in
our District to incorporate Chromebooks into their classrooms. They
then served as exemplars and coaches for their peers for integrating
the digitally-rich interactive classroom technology such as SMART
Interactive Flat Panels, Document Cameras, Audio Enhancement
systems, and projectors. These Trailblazers led the way in the number
of Google certifications earned by any district. They garnered several
awards and distinctions for the District, including the 2020 EdTech Trendsetter Award. This award
recognizes people in and around education for outstanding contributions to transforming education
through technology to enrich the lives of learners everywhere.

Our Teaching with Technology Trailblazers exhibit strong leadership skills, embrace change, learn
from failures, and develop strong relationships with their students. These traits support our District’s
mission to educate, affirm, and inspire each student in an equity-embedded school system. One
example of this in practice is their willingness to help peers during the pandemic shutdown when
the shift to remote learning left many in need of support. The Teaching with Technology Trailblazers
stepped up to the plate. They provided virtual support to the students, parents, teachers, and school
staff.

The next logical progression in the program is to develop a cadre of Teacher Leaders through a
Train the Trainer program made possible by a federal Title IV grant. The Train the Trainer program is
growing Teacher Leaders’ capacity to train other teachers to integrate technology with fidelity. We
are committed to supporting our teachers by providing training and resources that create classroom
environments conducive to 21st-century learning.
