The COVID-19 pandemic presented various challenges for families and students, which resulted in a
decrease in enrollment. The priority of the Student Attendance and Re-Engagement Initiative was
to locate unaccounted students, defined as students with no record of withdrawal and who:
• were enrolled FY20 but not counted in October 2020 or February 2021 FTE membership
surveys; or
• completed FY21 but did not return to school for FY22.
The grant award provided for additional staff, which enabled the District to include students whose
whereabouts were unknown and not included in the initial group of 1,939 unaccounted students. The
Re-Engagement Team provided outreach to verify the whereabouts of unaccounted students and
provided case management and the coordination of services to remove barriers to enrollment. The
initiative is ongoing, with outreach continuing over the summer and additional resources utilized to
contact students and families successfully.
