School Food Service


        School Food Service - Providing Food for Thought
        School Food Service provided over 8 million
        breakfasts, over 19 million lunches, and over 6
        million snacks and supper meals this year. All meals
        were offered to all students for free. In total, School
        Food Service served over 33.6 million meals.


        The department  also  provided  pre-holiday  meal
        kits to nourish students during Thanksgiving,
        Winter, and Spring Breaks. This initiative was possible due to the waivers through the United States
        Department of Agriculture (USDA).
           •  Thanksgiving Break meal kits were distributed at 16 schools throughout the District where
              3,981 students received nine meals and nine snacks, equating to 71,658 meals.
           •  Winter Break meal kits were distributed at 16 schools throughout the District where 3,889
              students received 13 meals and 13 snacks, equating to 101,114 meals.
           •  Pre-Spring Break meal distribution occurred in 18 schools where 3,662 students were provided
              36,620 meals and snacks.

        Additionally, 11 schools provided Spring Break tutorial programs where School Food Service served
        students over 1,800 meals and snacks throughout the week.
