Skills for Learning and Life
In FY23, the District focused on building a sense of belonging, safety, and acceptance for all students while developing a
common language around the newly required life skill competencies outlined in Florida Statute § 1003.42 (2)(n)(4). Our
Skills for Learning and Life (SLL) Guide organizes SLL themes into units to help make connections for students as the
themes build toward overarching goals:
• Unit 1: Being Our Best Selves
• Unit 2: Being Resilient
• Unit 3: Caring for Each Other
• Unit 4: Communicating Effectively with Each Other
• Unit 5: Resolving Conflicts and Repairing Relationships
• Unit 6: Making Responsible Decisions for Ourselves and Our Community
The SLL resource tile on the District’s portal is a one-stop-shop for schools to find weekly lessons for explicit instruction
and resources to communicate with families and caregivers. This includes ways families can reinforce SLL skills at home.
In addition, there are Morning Meeting (elementary) and Community Circle (secondary) resources to use with students to
strengthen relationships and foster a sense of belonging that support the culture and climate at every school and in every
classroom.
