                                    60 SUPERINTENDENT ANNUAL REPORTMPO summer interns learn new skills such as electrical troubleshooting, plumbing, and HVAC maintenance. MAINTENANCE AND PLANT OPERATIONS STEP PROGRAMIn FY26, the Department of Maintenance & Plant Operations (MPO) Student Teen Employment Program (STEP) hosted 14 students from West Technical Education Center, Seminole Ridge Community HS, Lake Worth Community HS, and Royal Palm Beach Community HS. Participants were enrolled in either a Construction or a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) technology program.The STEP initiative strengthens workforce development, boosts operational capacity, and demonstrates the District%u2019s commitment to preparing students for rewarding careers in the skilled trades. Notable accomplishments from the cohort include:%u2022 Providing structured, hands-on training in electrical and fire alarm systems, plumbing, HVAC/R, and lock and window trades.%u2022 Pairing interns with senior technicians to collaborate on daily work orders, respond to emergency calls, and participate in planned summer projects.%u2022 Assisting with facility improvements, including painting, flooring installation, grounds maintenance, electrical work, and HVAC/R services.%u2022 Helping staff address citations from Comprehensive Safety Inspection Reports and achieve Department of Health compliance.%u2022 Enhancing operational readiness for the beginning of the school year.%u2022 Expanding the District%u2019s skilled trades talent pipeline, leading to the hiring of five interns as full-time MPO employees.
