● Infrastructure & Security Improvements– A natural outgrowth of expanding technology devices
and access is the need for better, faster, and more capable technology infrastructure. We
continue to expand our internet bandwidth, upgrade and expand WiFi access points, and
upgrade servers, switches, and other supporting infrastructure as needed. We also continue to
refine and improve our Disaster Recovery capabilities to allow access to critical applications,
data, and processes in the event of unplanned outages of any duration. Providing security
tools, technology, and education to protect our data, privacy, and access remains a top
concern. We’re committed to continuing our investments in threat detection, response, and
prevention. We are leveraging state-of-the-art technologies like Artificial Intelligence and
Machine Learning to ensure rapid identification and response to threats.
● Business Process Automation & Improvements – Our focus on reducing manual processes
through applications to help staff be more productive and efficient continues. SIS is paying big
dividends as the single-point-of-entry system for the majority of student data and feeds many
other applications and processes for student achievement, reporting and compliance. EdPlan
for ESE students and Elevation for ESOL monitoring are two examples of recent applications
that replaced mostly paper-based systems. Others include a Threat Assessment and Suicide
Awareness platform, multiple custom apps including Caring First; a centralized system for
tracking and aggregating mental health and wellness services for students, and outsourcing the
collection and submission of fingerprints for applicants. Mature enterprise platforms like
PeopleSoft, IBM TRIRIGA, and e-Support continue to expand their functionalities and provide
increased improvements across all multiple departments.
● Continuous Improvement Cycle Support - The updated Technology Plan tries to anticipate and
respond to future needs and challenges that will lie ahead. With the growing maturation of our
IT PMO and the greater acceptance of Project Management and PMO methodologies across
the District, we’re supporting that cycle of continuous improvement. Encouraging an
atmosphere of collaboration, transparency, open and honest communication, and soliciting
feedback from our leadership, staff, teachers, students, parents/guardians, and the community,
will help us constantly measure, adjust and improve our priorities, processes, and resources.
This will be key in ensuring that the Technology Plan is both effective and responsive to the
needs of our stakeholders.
The future of technology for education will include the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning
in applications and research to better tailor individual learning experiences, allow for more self-paced
learning, and help students gain better mastery of their chosen course of study. It will also be key in
identifying students who are falling behind earlier, allowing for remedial actions and plans to be
activated. Technology will continue to play a major role in delivering the best educational experiences
and outcomes for all students.
