Message from Chief Information Officer
Deepak Agarwal
The FY 2023-2027 IT Strategic Technology plan
provides our blueprint for the future and recognizes
the ever-increasing role of technology in our schools
and District operations. Our primary goal is to
continue providing cost-effective solutions that
enhance the educational experience for students
and provide efficient operational applications and
processes to support our District mission.
The Technology Plan for FY 2023-2027 provides an
emphasis on providing anytime, anywhere access to
teaching and learning resources. It also supports the
5-year District Strategic Plan to better prepare our
students to compete in the global digital economy by
providing equitable access to technology and tools
required for success in the modern working world.
We seek to align our plans with the guidance and
best practices as outlined in the National
Educational Technology Plan and the Florida State
Board of Education Technology Plan.
Building and expanding on our past Technology
Plans, we aim to provide reliable access to devices,
applications, and technology tools in a secure,
robust digital environment. The ability to maintain
privacy and security is paramount, as the frequency and level of sophistication of attempted attacks
continue to increase. Several high-level areas the plan seeks to address are:
● 1:1 Student Devices: By reaching this important milestone, we’ve greatly expanded the
opportunity for individualized instruction, as well as expanding the availability of access to
technology. This also requires an increased investment in resources to maintain, repair, and
replace the devices as needed.
● Personalized Learning: The 1:1 Student device initiative provides expanded opportunities for
individualized and personalized learning. Students now have anywhere, all-the-time access to
online educational resources and review material at their own pace. Ed Tech continues to
provide and expand the suite of applications and resources available to students to support
Personalized Learning in and out of the classroom, including Khan Academy, Discovery
Education, Brain Pop, and many others. Paper, a free 24/7 online tutoring service is also
available for students in grades 6-12.
● Cloud-Based Computing – By following an industry trend towards moving more applications to
the cloud, we’re leveraging the security, scalability, availability, and reduced infrastructure
requirements that cloud-based computing offers. Several notable examples of recent
cloud-based initiatives include a Security Event Incident Management (SIEM) platform, Contact
Center as a Service (CCaas), and Cloud-Based Active Directory Provisioning, which is part of
our move to a Hosted Portal. We’ll continue to analyze and select among on-site hosted,
cloud-based, and hybrid solutions as appropriate to the project and the needs of the District.
