Chapter 4 - Business System and Processes
Executive Overview
Our School District’s mission critical functions are managed using various enterprise systems
and software applications. These systems support student data management, financial
management, HR processes, food service operations, facilities operations, work order
management, and other school district business functions. Enterprise systems, including the
Student Information System (SIS), the Enterprise Portal, PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP), the Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS), and several
custom-developed software applications, are browser-based and implemented using
industry-leading, efficient, high performing, and best-of-breed technologies.
People
The District has been successful in building a strong team of IT professionals to deliver, support,
maintain, and enhance its software applications. To that end, we will continue to:
● Maintain this high level of expertise in-house to provide consistent availability and
delivery of systems that are depended upon for academic and business success.
● Hire the right staff and provide training and continuous education to enhance their
knowledge and experience.
● Measure employee performance against high standards to maintain our current high
productivity level.
● Use internal resources to implement new systems and keep existing software
applications up-to-date, which will lower the overall cost of ownership.
● Train business owners and end users for full utilization of systems to increase
efficiencies across the District.
● Prioritize work to ensure resources (people) are completing projects most important to
furthering the District’s mission.
Process
Technology-related projects and implementations typically result in improved business
processes. To that end, we will continue to:
● Adhere to the Software Design Lifecycle (SDLC) methodology, agile development
principles, and ITIL standards and best practices.
● Promote business process redesign and continuous improvements that produce
efficiencies through the use of technology.
● Ensure comprehensive documentation exists across all technology areas.
