PE Community Challenges
Since the pandemic started, the Palm Beach County Physical Education (PBC-PE) team has challenged the
students, parents, communities and the world to keep moving to stay healthy. Many wonderful worldwide
events have been canceled and left us with finding new ways to get the community to still participate, engage
and share in these great active events. Our first virtual challenge of four was created from the cancellation of
the Boston Marathon. Our version of the Boston Marathon was to complete one mile a day for 26 days. The
success of these challenges came from families participating together, and then sharing their stories via social
media. (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram - #PBCPErocks). In FY21, we had more families, community, school staff
and administration participate in two more interactive Bitmoji map challenges.
We began FY21 strong with the PBC-PE Summer Tour. Participants watched a teaser video Summer Tour
Video with instructions from our team and were given a virtual interactive map. The map Summer Tour Map
included 10 destinations with mileage to complete and then have a virtual visit to beautiful world landmarks
of equal distance completed. The interactive map also included healthy recipes, extra activities, supplemental
physical education free resources, hydration tips and more. Families challenged themselves to choose and
increase their activity miles and destinations. The participants had a variety of inclusive ways to move such as
walking, jogging, biking, skating, rolling, paddling, and/or swimming. As they completed mileage in activities
they also earned virtual badges of their destinations. Families and community members loved sharing
these virtual badges on social media and getting friends and families involved with the following hashtags
#PBCPErocks and #PBCPESummerTour.
