Adult Education
The Department of Adult and Community Education plays a critical
role in developing underserved community members, including those
who wish to learn English and those seeking to earn a high school
diploma. Thirty thousand adult students are served each year, many of
whom are parents of District K-12 students. The department provides
comprehensive instructional programs designed to improve the
employability of adult students by increasing the percentage of those
in post-secondary education who earn a degree, certificate, and/or
industry certification. During the FY24 school year, programs included:
Welding program offered at North Tech and West Tech
• Pre-apprentice courses in Plumbing, Carpentry, Welding,
Electricity, HVAC
• Apprentice courses in Electricity, Plumbing, Carpentry, and HVAC
• Commercial Driver’s License – Class A
• Medical Programs in Medical Assisting, Electrocardiograph (EKG)
Technician, Phlebotomy, and Home Health Aide
• Family literacy programs at multiple elementary schools
• Adult Basic Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages
(ESOL), and Adult High School
• Integrated education and training – learn english while earning a
workforce certification
• Credit recovery programs for high school students - positively
impacting high school graduation rates One of six trucks for student training
• Administrative Office Specialist program
• Pilot program “Can You Dig It?”, an underground utilities program for high school seniors
• Pilot program “Are You Wired to be an Electrician?” for high school seniors
