Making Your Choice
• Based on the County’s Metrics for determining when it’s safe to move to the next phase of recovery, the District will
continue to reevaluate health conditions before initiating the next stage in the recovery plan.
◦ August 31: first day of 2020-2021 school year
◦ The District began in distance learning for all students, pre-kindergarten to grade 12.
◦ Status of COVID-19 and health conditions within the District are monitored & evaluated weekly.
◦ Families were given the option to begin in-person instruction on school campuses beginning on
September 21 or they could choose to continue with distance learning.
• While in Phase 3 of Palm Beach County’s Reopening Plan, families will have three options for student learning.
◦ Option 1: remain connected to the assigned/choice District school via distance learning.
◦ Option 2: return to the assigned/choice school’s physical campus for in-person instruction five days a week.
◦ Option 3: participate in self-paced learning experiences guided by Palm Beach Virtual teachers.
• While in Phase 3, parents and guardians were asked to finalize their plans for their child’s instruction for the remainder of each semester,
selecting either in-person or distance learning.
◦ October 5-14, 2020 is the timeframe during which parents/guardians were asked to confirm a final choice for the rest of the semester
through the Make Your Choice option in the Student Portal. Choices made during the registration window took effect on November 4,
2020.
◦ January 4-11, 2021 is the timeframe during which parents/guardians were asked to confirm a final choice for the rest of the 2020-2021
school year through the Make Your Choice option in the Student Portal.
◦ A waiver process will be available which allows parents to switch their chosen mode of instruction, if there are extenuating
circumstances requiring a change.
