Page 6Fostering Student InnovatorsUnder Policy 2.505, students are encouraged to use AI to elevate their learning, provided their use is guided by their teacher and relates directly to the curriculum. To help students build strong digital citizenship and academic integrity, the policy establishes clear parameters:%u2022 Guided Exploration: Classroom teachers act as guides, determining when AI use is standards-based, age-appropriate, and beneficial for a specific assignment.%u2022 Transparent Learning: Students build integrity by properly acknowledging their use of AI tools when completing schoolwork.%u2022 Authentic Assessment: To maintain the integrity of assessment results, student use of AI is reserved for non-testing environments, like classroom learning and individual tutoring, and is not permitted on District, state, or standardized assessments unless formally documented as an accommodation.%u2022 Responsible Creation: We promote a culture of respect by strictly prohibiting the creation or distribution of deepfakes intended to deceive, bully, or defame others%u2014behavior that may also violate Florida law.Pioneering the Future: Next-Generation Pilots in Secondary SchoolsTo further student innovation, the District is actively expanding the horizon of possibility. The Department of Educational Technology initiated regulated pilot programs during the second semester of FY26, aimed at safely investigating the potential of Google Gemini and NotebookLM to improve information synthesis and student research. Following a successful pilot at four secondary schools, NotebookLM access expanded to all high school students this past May, with a broader rollout planned for middle schools. Looking ahead, Gemini will officially launch at three high schools at the start of FY27.Protecting Data at the CoreInnovation must be built on a foundation of trust. Whether AI systems are facilitated internally or externally, they are required to adhere to all SDPBC Data Security policies. Under FERPA, student PII remains strictly confidential and is rigorously protected. All agreements with approved third-party AI vendors feature robust provisions to safeguard our organization%u2019s data.
