Here are some of the additional initiatives from the IT Technical
Operations team:
• SITV Data Center Backup Power - generator installed for power
redundancy
• District 1:1 Initiative - deployed 90,000+ student and CTE devices to
support 1:1 student to device ratio for FY21
• Teacher Laptop Refresh - provide all teachers with laptops, docks and
extra monitor for added mobility and flexibility
• T-Mobile Transfer - moved from Sprint to T-Mobile
IT Security
As cyberattacks and bad actors become more prevalent and sophisticated,
the IT Security team remains vigilant in their efforts to keep our systems,
applications and infrastructure secure. Initiatives in 2021 included extending
LightSpeed Filtering to all servers, data protection in PeopleSoft via Appsian,
and pilot/acquisition of a state-of-the-art SIEM to provide early threat detection
and response.
Additional work completed or in progress from the IT Security
group includes:
• 2021 Security Awareness Campaign - from industry leader InfoSec
• District-Wide Phishing Campaign - user-targeted emails for threat
education
• Penetration Testing & Vulnerability Scanning (Tenable) - identification
and mitigation of vulnerabilities
• CJIS Certification
• Audit Response
IT Infrastructure
IT Infrastructure continues to provide the foundation for all devices, systems
and applications. Completing the multi-year District-Wide Avaya Phone
Upgrade was a huge accomplishment for 2021. With bandwidth demand
leveling off, the decision was made not to extend past the current 60 Gbps
speeds at all schools. A District-Wide VMWare upgrade keeps the virtual
servers up-to-date and performing well. Leveraging E-Rate funds, the team
was able to complete the Core Router Upgrades at all schools, and wrap up
WiFi Access Point Upgrades at Elementary Schools.
Other infrastructure improvements in the past year included:
• Middle School Servers - refresh completed
• HCI (hyper-converged-infrastructure) - implementation completed
• AVI Web Application Firewall & Load Balancing
• NSX Micro-Segmentation for SIS
