SECURITY TRAINING

– YOU ARE THE SHIELD

Starting in the Fall of 2018, the new 2019 Security Awareness training for
current and new employee was released. While Security Awareness training
is not new to the District, the past training modules have been update to
deliver content which is current and needed in today’s cyber world.

This year’s Securing the Human theme is meant to help staff understand the
threats in today’s world. The Email and Phishing module is just one of many
topics covered. People are incorrect in thinking they will not be targeted.
Cyber criminals continue to come up with new and creative ways to fool
people. A new type of scam is gaining popularity— personalized scams.
Cyber criminals find or purchase information about millions of people, then
use that information to personalize their attacks.

Always be careful when opening up any attachment or clicking on a link.
Common sense goes a long way in defeating the spammers. Chances
are you probably did not “Win the Lottery” or have a rich long lost relative
leave you a large inheritance. On the positive side, the email from someone
demanding money “or else” is probably fake as well.

Please take the training and use it as a reminder of what can happen.
