Transportation Services

District bus drivers and attendants are the first contact points for students, families, and school
staff each day. Their performance is critical to safely delivering students to school and back home
on time. FY22, on-time arrival exceeded 90% despite severe bus driver shortages and lingering
        COVID-19 challenges.

During the first part of FY22, a Bus Driver Task Force aimed to address recruitment, retention, and
job satisfaction specifically. This committee included District leadership, principals, bus drivers, union
representatives, and other community members. As a result of the task force's efforts, a successful
Facebook recruiting campaign was launched and several retention initiatives were recommended
        to senior leadership.

Additionally, 48 job fairs were held throughout the county to find unexpected candidates and
provide face-to-face meetings with the community where District opportunities were promoted.

The Transportation Department works very hard to implement technology that will improve
operating efficiency for all stakeholders. This past year, transportation successfully updated the
GPS on all District school buses to support current 4G technology. Barcode scanning devices were
installed to accurately record student ridership and improve student safety.

        Additional successes:
           • The department upgraded 50% of all fuel pumps to more
              reliable, efficient units.
           • “Register Your Ride” student registration application was
developed and released, which tremendously improved our
efficiency at the start of the school year.
           • The department completed a WiFi technology installation
on buses. All District school buses now have WiFi available
              onboard.
                                                                                   Students disembarking a school bus
        Planning & Intergovernmental Relations

The Planning & Intergovernmental Relations Department provided technical and intergovernmental
expertise for several important District initiatives, thereby maximizing internal professional resources.

The Decennial 2020 Census Redistricting of School Board Member Residence Areas was conducted
in-house at very minimal cost due to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) expertise of
department staff. The process was completed in FY22 in record time despite pandemic-induced
delays in data delivery by the U.S. Census Bureau. The resulting new districts are shown in the map
        below.
