P. 24
Executive Overview
Growing up in a rapidly changing, always-connected world, students today expect digital
curriculum, tools and resources, and the ability to interact and collaborate both within and
beyond their immediate surroundings. Mobile devices and updated teaching technology
tools within the digital classroom are necessary to meet this expectation.
The 21 Century Digital Classroom extends beyond school walls and is not limited by the
st
time and place of the traditional classroom. Learning in the classroom is evolving from a
traditional teacher-led model to a model where the teacher is a facilitator of learning. As this
occurs and learning is personalized, students develop a sense of control in their learning.
Learning environments and modes of instruction and curriculum should all efficiently meet
the individual needs of the learner. Facilitating 21 Century learning can involve whole
st
group, small group, and individual instruction, in face to face, online and blended modes.
The digital classroom should provide relevant learning experiences through engaging
content, as well as resources that adapt to the learner and assessments that measure
student achievement in authentic and meaningful ways.
This chapter will outline the District plan to increase digital literacy and academic
achievement by providing all stakeholders access to technology rich curriculum and
instructional tools, innovative classroom management and communication tools, and
relevant student data. The digital classroom (as displayed in the diagram below) should
leverage the power of technology to personalize and accelerate learning for each and every
learner by opening opportunities beyond the traditional classroom through blended learning.
