Connect students to their local community and the world beyond the classroom by
engaging them in real-world learning opportunities, such as internships,
apprenticeships, hands-on projects, and global study.
Use tools, technology, and data to enhance classroom instruction, assess individual
students’ progress, and jointly identify next steps for meeting their needs.
The District Strategic Plan will ultimately drive the Personalized and Blended Learning
initiatives in the District, but laying the groundwork for those initiatives is already underway.
International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards
As part of the ongoing effort to support the District’s Strategic Plan and the Pillars of
Effective Instruction, The School District of Palm Beach County has adopted the ISTE
Standards for Teaching and Learning and is working to train and support all stakeholders in
st
an effort to advance 21 Century Skills and effective use of technology in the classrooms.
The ISTE Standards include:
ISTE Standards for Students
ISTE Standards for Teachers
ISTE Standards for Administrators
ISTE Standards for Coaches

These standards promote the evolution of a digital age learning environment for all learners,
and specifically, the ISTE Student Standards (adopted in 2016) lay the foundation for a
constructivist approach where students contribute in defining their individual learning path
and construct their own learning from experiences.
The ISTE Student Standards are as follows:
Empowered Learner
Digital Citizen
Knowledge Curator
