SAFE DRIVER PLAN
Employees who fail to self-report accidents, citations, arrests, invalid MEC’s or driver’s license shall be subject
to disciplinary action and appropriate points for the infraction.
ACCIDENTS (School District Vehicles)
If an employee is involved in a traffic accident with a District vehicle they are to remain at the accident scene
and contact their immediate supervisor via the radio or other communication device, and law enforcement
to report their location, vehicle(s) involved, any known or possible injuries.
A driver involved in a single vehicle accident/crash/violation or event, but cited for more than one violation,
will receive points for all citations.
Accidents that the Vehicle Accident Review Committee (VARC) determine to be preventable will be submitted
to the Safe Driver Plan Administrator and the Office of Employee and Labor Relations for review and
appropriate action including safe driver points. This includes preventable accidents that occur on all public or
private property including Palm Beach School Board Property such as but not limited to school bus loops,
parking lots, Transportation facilities, and any other location whether or not the employee received a citation
for the accident.
DISCIPLINARY ACTION
Driver Safety Points will be assessed by two sources:
(1) The Director of Transportation or designee; and,
(2) The Vehicle Accident Review Committee (VARC) or designee.
Driver Safety Points will be assessed by the Vehicle Accident Review Committee (VARC) for all preventable
accidents involving covered employees driving district-owned/leased vehicles in accordance with the
guidelines established in Driver Safety Points Assessment Schedule of the Safe Driver Plan.
Driver Safety Points will also be assessed by the Director of Transportation or designee pursuant to a review
of Driving Records and according to the section marked Point System. A computerized tracking system will be
maintained to keep a record of all points a driver may receive with an effective date of assignment associated
with the number of points assigned. The driver shall receive written notification of the number of points for
the infraction and the effective date points are assigned. Points are effective on the date of
conviction/disposition.
An employee who indicates that they have court action will not be assigned points under the Safe Driver Plan
until such court action or the VARC process is complete, at which time the employee must notify the Director
of Transportation or designee of the results. The employee must communicate with their supervisor and
submit any court-related documents immediately upon notification of any court action or no later than ten
(10) work days after the request for abatement, otherwise points will be assessed. If the driver is found guilty,
