SAFE DRIVER PLAN
adjudication withheld, or does not contest the charges the driver will be immediately assigned points and
administrative action(s) taken, if required.
Prior to the point(s) assessment, which could result in a recommendation for suspension, termination, or
other Board action, a review of the specific circumstances will be held with the employee.
Please note that a driver may be suspended from driving duties with or without pay pending court action.
Points will not be recognized or have a punitive effect if they are older than three (3) years from the effective
date of assignment of the points.
An accumulation of points for traffic citations as reflected in the DHSMV Driver record or recommended by
VARC will result in recommendations for disciplinary action as indicated below:

1 - 5 Within 12 rolling calendar months Verbal Reprimand with Written

6 - 12 Within 12 rolling calendar months Written Reprimand
13 - 18 Within 24 rolling calendar months 10-Workday suspension without
pay
19 or more Within 36 rolling calendar months Termination of employment as a

Implementation of the above does not in any way preclude disciplinary action up to and including dismissal
against any employee for violations not specifically listed in this Safe Driver Plan, or for violation of any
expressed work rule, order, policy and/or reasonable management expectation. The School Board reserves
the right to issue points and take disciplinary action up to and including dismissal when it considers the offense
serious enough, especially when the occupants of any School District vehicle or the general public’s safety and
welfare are at risk, and/or in cases of restriction, including disqualification, cancellation, expired, suspension
or revocation of a driver’s license.
Employees who are dismissed under this Safe Driver Plan may reapply for employment into non-driving
positions.
INVALID DRIVER’S LICENSE
A. Any driver who has an expired, disqualified, cancelled, suspended or revoked Driver’s License is
required to have their invalid Driver’s License reinstated within five (5) work days from the date
their license became invalid. Any employee who fails to get their expired, disqualified, cancelled,
suspended or revoked Driver’s License reinstated within the five (5) work days shall be
