The Interactive Classroom
The Interactive Classroom is the established configuration for all District classrooms. All standard classrooms have an
Audio Enhancement® system, document camera, and dual displays (a SMART interactive flat panel and classroom projector
or two flat panels).
During FY24, the District replaced over 6,700 older-model and obsolete projectors at 154 schools with newer, brighter, and
longer-lasting models. Additionally, over 2,500 classroom sound field enhancement amplifiers at 36 schools were replaced
with modern networked amplifiers, laying the groundwork for future upgrades to the EPIC System®. The District’s
commitment to maintaining a high standard of technological integration ensures all classrooms are digitally rich and
personalized learning environments.
EPIC System:™ Intercom, Paging, and Bells
The Audio Enhancement EPIC System™ (Education Paging & Intercom Communications) is a network-based intercom and
bell system. Due to its direct integration with classroom sound field enhancement systems and safety alerting solutions, the
EPIC System™ has been the standard for new construction schools since 2020.
In November 2022, Superintendent Burke approved the the EPIC System™ as the standard solution for upgrading traditional
intercom systems. Following this approval, the Department of Educational Technology added a 10-year plan to the District’s
capital budget to migrate schools to the EPIC System™. As of June 30, 2024, the number of District-operated schools and
adult education campuses using the EPIC System™ has grown to 30.
