Enhancing Transportation Workplace Culture


        Throughout FY24, the Department of Transportation Services, under the leadership of the Chief Operating Officer (COO),
        has been at the forefront of transforming the department’s culture. The department leaders advanced the H.E.A.R.T. model,
        instilling the values of being Helpful, Effective, Accountable, Respectful, and a Team player. This model has fostered a more
        cohesive work environment, increased productivity, improved teamwork, and enhanced employee satisfaction.


        The cornerstone of our transformation was the integration of seven specialized workshops into the division’s Operational
        Excellence  Academy  for  the  leadership  team.  These  workshops  focused  on  emotional  intelligence,  conflict  resolution,
        servant leadership, and sensitivity training, and significantly enhanced the skills and capabilities of our leaders. They now
        lead by example, fostering improved communication, collaboration, and professionalism.


        Armed with these advanced skills and guided by our unwavering commitment to excellence, the leadership team has set
        a powerful example. Their efforts are already bearing fruit, as we witness improved communication, collaboration, and
        professionalism department-wide. This investment in our team’s development is more than a one-time boost but a catalyst
        for sustained improvement and job satisfaction across all levels.

        The COO instituted a regular practice of visiting each transportation facility alongside upper management periodically.
        This proactive strategy guarantees direct employee interaction, offering them another forum to express feedback. These
        visits cultivated transparency, trust, and accountability across the department and boosted employee morale, solidifying
        the dedication to ongoing enhancement and employee welfare. During these visits, the leadership team seized the chance
        to acknowledge and commend employees for their diligent efforts and commitment, nurturing a culture of recognition and
        drive within the workforce.


        The department is committed to expanding these initiatives, underlining our dedication to achieving operational excellence,
        and prioritizing employee well-being through this continuous process.
