Security Upgrade - School Bus Camera System and Monitoring
The Department of Transportation Services continues to use its upgraded advanced camera systems. The advantages of
the Seon Vmax system include:
• Increased hard drive storage capacity from two to four terabytes
• Fleet-wide automated downloads for video retrieval
• Higher-definition video footage
• Forward-facing cameras
The increase in storage capacity allowed the District to surpass the 30-day retention rules for video footage. The time to
retrieve videos from the old system was typically measured in weeks and suffered from low retrieval rates, unusable footage
due to formatting errors, and hard drive failures. Additional staff and spare equipment components were also required.
With the upgraded system, multiple requesters can now initiate the download of video from a computer via Wi-Fi access
points from the facilities or school sites. The video footage is received within 24 hours at a 99% retrieval rate. The successful
performance of the new system, combined with higher-definition video footage and a forward-facing camera, allows for
better customer service and conflict resolution in the event of an incident or accident on the bus.
