Here Comes the Bus Application

The Department of Transportation Services successfully launched the “Here Comes the Bus” app in FY24. This new
technology is powered by a Global Positioning System (GPS) and installed on all buses. It provides families invaluable peace
of mind by offering real-time notifications regarding their child’s bus pick-up and drop-off times. Accessible to all parents
with appropriate security permissions, this application represents a significant step forward to enhance communication
and transparency between the Department of Transportation Services and our community.

        Notable benefits include:

          • Elimination of the need for parents to call schools to check the status of a bus.
          • Customizable maps that work on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
          • Automated alerts as the bus approaches a designated stop.
          • Fewer missed student pick-ups, reduced wait times at bus stops, and quicker routes.

        Transportation Advisory Committee

The Transportation Advisory Committee supports the District’s commitment to operational excellence by providing a
pathway for schools to offer feedback and input regarding the Department of Transportation Services’ support. This group
comprises school administrators from all levels and regions and staff members from the Operations Division.

In addition to the group’s primary goal of addressing daily services provided to schools, the committee assisted with
implementing two new projects during FY24. The Here Comes the Bus (HCTB) program is an easy-to-use website and
app that enables parents and guardians to receive automated notifications on their devices when their child's school bus is
approaching their assigned bus stop. Based on the pilot’s success, HCTB was expanded incrementally to schools throughout
the year, achieving full implementation in January 2024.

The second project included scanning student identification cards as students boarded and exited the buses. This project
will improve student safety by providing a more accurate listing of the students riding our school buses daily. Committee
members shared their schools’ experiences with the scanning process, leading to adjustments throughout the school year.
