Student-Focused Culture
Objective 1: Increase student voice and choice in educational experiences
Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee
The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee (SSAC) is composed of high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors
who represent the District’s diverse student body. This committee serves as a collaborative think tank for innovative ideas
and makes recommendations to the superintendent in a safe and structured environment. The students use their powerful
voices to provide feedback on various District policies and procedures, conducting research, using data to support their
recommendations, and ensuring their voice informs the development of practical solutions with the superintendent.
During the FY24 school year, the SSAC has been pivotal in addressing critical issues within our District, mainly student
mental health and wellness. At the Student Mental Health and Wellness Conference, our SSAC members confidently
engaged with educators and mental health professionals on a panel, sharing their perspectives and personal experiences on
mental health. The committee also reviewed and offered feedback on parts of the playbook to improve its applicability and
efficacy and offered insightful input on strategic plan initiative B.1a. The SSAC was involved in the curriculum adoption
process, providing input on the suggested curriculum for character education, life skills, and resiliency standards. With the
adoption of House Bill 733 - middle and high school start times, the District elicited students’ voices to get their input on the
proposed school start times. The SSAC’s assistance has been crucial in ensuring that our programs are thorough and
represent the needs of our diverse population of students.
