If interventions provided through the school-based team did not resolve the truancy issue, students were referred to the
District's truancy intervention program for additional support. Students in the program received intensive outreach,
including case management and coordination of services, to improve student attendance.
In addition to addressing chronic absenteeism and truancy, the Department of Safe Schools initiated a comprehensive re-
engagement effort. A multi-disciplinary team of case managers and social services facilitators worked to locate students
whose whereabouts were unknown, and to assist disengaged students with the registration process. As needed, referrals
were made to community agencies to provide parents with support in various areas, including housing, bills, food, physical
and mental health, tutoring, mentoring, and child care. Students were also provided with clothing and school supplies, if
needed.
