Community Hunger Relief
School Food Service, as a member of the United Way of Palm Beach County’s Hunger Relief Advisory
Council and a variety of their hunger-relief workgroups, is always looking for ways to partner with
the community to help our children. This year the District partnered with the following organizations
to provide weekend meals to students and families:

           • Palm Beach County Food Bank
                • Kicked off a new program called the ’Weekend Food for Kids’ with 26 schools. Currently,
there are 34 Backpacks/Food Bag programs (eight of them from the Lois’ Food4Kids
program) and four Food Pantries programs.
                • Provides backpacks through the Achievement Centers for Children and Families at two
                   schools.
                • They also partnered with ten schools during the summer to continue to provide food
bags. Each bag includes two breakfasts, two individual lunches, three individual snacks,
three drinks, and one family-style dinner.
           • Boca Helping Hands Weekend Food Program currently serves about 1,500 students who receive
a box of food each weekend for about 33 weeks of the academic year in 11 local elementary
              schools.
           • Pan-Florida Challenge through the Boys and Girls Club provided backpacks at six schools and
directly to South Grade Elementary serving 469 students throughout the seven schools.
           • Blessings in a Backpack provides weekend food for elementary school children across America.
Four of our elementary schools have been part of this nationwide program for many years, with
a total of about 400 students participating.
           • First UMC Jupiter-Tequesta is a community outreach program supported by First United
Methodist Church of Jupiter-Tequesta members designed to help Elementary schools in
Jupiter. They are currently working with three schools by providing nutritious food bags to 139
              students.
           • Living Hungry ‘Not one Hungry Homeless Students’ provides weekend meals at 17 schools and
delivers various resources to our homeless students. Including hygiene kits, socks, comfort
packs, school supplies, backpacks, gift cards, dinner vouchers, bus passes, Florida ID, Publix
              cards, and more.
