Partnerships in Service of Student Well-Being
Multi-Tiered Mental Health Support
Through the District’s Mental Health Assistance Plan and with the support of local referendum
funds, the Department of Behavioral and Mental Health has substantially expanded students’ access
to school-based mental health support. A multi-tiered system of mental health supports involves
partnerships with internal and external stakeholders (see below). This is a collaborative system
that engages school-based and community-based stakeholders. School-based leverages the
unique skill sets of professionals (e.g., school counselors, school psychologists, school behavioral
health professionals, co-located mental health professionals) so that a broader range of services
is provided to benefit student wellbeing. Community-based expands family connection to the 35
service providers with Behavioral Health Agreements through mental health referral.

School-Based (Co-located) Mental Health Services
Co-located Mental Health Professionals are contracted mental health professionals employed by
11 agency partners and in place at 100 sites. They provide individual counseling to students, with
parental consent and at no cost to families. Co-located mental health services do not require a
diagnosis, and services are available on campus during the regular school day.
Continued expansion of the School-Based (co-located) initiative to include 115 schools is planned
for FY23.
