Professional Development Certification Program (Alternative
Certification)
The District’s Professional Development Certification Program (PDCP) or Alternative Certification
Program is a rigorous two-year program for new teachers who hold a temporary teaching certificate
and have not graduated from a college of education program. Our District-developed program
consists of 10 core competencies and develops high-quality educators using job-embedded
professional learning via online learning, coupled with sustained coaching, mentoring, and support.
The District also offers and supports PDCP via Beacon Educator Coursework. This fee-based online
program consists of six core content courses and other required coursework and can be completed
in less than two years. By choosing either program as a means of alternative certification, participants
commit to completing targeted, high-quality professional learning activities and tasks. The District
ensures the participants of either PDCP program are empowered, encouraged, and motivated to
maintain a career as an educator.
FY22 Data
• 73% of candidates who have a temporary certificate expiring in June 2022 completed PDCP
and were eligible to apply for their professional teaching certificate.
• The remaining participants were granted an extension.
• Participants will be supported and monitored for progress toward program completion.
• One hundred and eleven teachers with temporary certificates joined our 2023 Cohort.
• 5% have completed their program requirements early and applied for their professional teaching
certificate
