The SLEM’s primary goal is the same as when it was first implemented in 2014, to help principals
and assistant principals grow their leadership practices. An essential model component involves
collecting evidence and data for analysis, reflection, and guiding deliberate practice through the
coaching process. Observations allow the school leader and supervisor to meet and engage in this
process.
In FY22, an Observation Pacing Guide was developed based on feedback from our school leaders
and their supervisors to help support the evaluation process. The guide helps structure a coaching
conversation based on evidence and provides concrete data that allow the employee and their
supervisor to identify the areas of strength and areas for improvement. Principal supervisors use
it with principals, who then use it with their assistant principals to ensure that all school leaders
receive the support they need to grow in their positions.
Objective 3: Instill resource optimization to yield maximum return on
investment.
