Virtual & Home Educational Services

The Department of Virtual and Home Educational Services supports
Strategic Theme A, Academic Excellence and Growth, by implementing
innovative learning and differentiated approaches through Virtual
Education, Hospital Homebound, and Home Education services outside
of the traditional brick & mortar environment.
• Palm Beach Virtual School is a K-12 school option in Palm Beach
County. Full-time and part-time options are offered to students. All full-time students work on a flexible schedule. All
courses are asynchronous.
• Hospital Homebound is a temporary intervention service. The primary goal is to minimize instructional gaps by
providing access to the curriculum while the student is medically confined and to promote re-entry into a traditional
setting.
• Home Education is a parent-directed educational option. Parents have the freedom to determine their child’s
educational path and plan for reaching their goals. Students have the opportunity to explore and learn at their own
pace.
• In FY23, over 13,000 students participated in Virtual & Home Educational Services.

Accelerated Mathematics Program

To best meet the needs of all students in the District, the accelerated mathematics pathways allow students to receive
targeted mathematics instruction through mathematics course compaction. Mathematics acceleration provides students
access to advanced coursework opportunities in math, allows students to engage when ready through multiple on-ramps
and off-ramps, and is associated with higher proficiency levels regardless of prior performance. Accelerated mathematics
courses are available to students in grades 3-8.
