Seal of Biliteracy
World Language courses are offered in eight languages (American Sign
Language, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese,
and Spanish), with AP/AICE/IB options available in French, Italian,
Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Through these courses, students
across the District have the opportunity to develop multilingual skills
and global competencies. In alignment with encouraging and recognizing
students who have attained proficiency in at least two languages, the
District promotes the benefits of the Seal of Biliteracy and continues to
increase the number of biliteracy seals earned by students. Most recently,
the Class of 2022* earned 1336 Seals of Biliteracy.
Instructional Professional Development
The Department of Multicultural Education provided targeted
professional development in English Language Development Standards
and strategies to ensure content is understandable. Teachers and
administrators in identified schools were trained in Talk-Read-Talk-
Write professional development. Talk-Read-Talk-Write is a practical
approach to classroom instruction that encourages students to converse,
participate, read, and write in a structured environment while developing
literacy skills in various subject areas. The following schools trained their
faculty on Talk-Read-Talk-Write: Barton ES, Highland ES, Lake Worth
MS, Lake Worth HS, Palm Springs ES, Seminole Trails ES, South Grade
ES, and West Gate ES.
