Chapter 11 – Technology Roadmap,
Funding, and Forecast
Executive Overview
Funding
For maybe the first time since publishing these plans, all of our milestone projects for the next
five years are currently fully funded as part of our 10-Year Capital Budget Plan. One of the major
factors for us in being able to fund large-scale technology projects has been the support of our
voters for referendums on capital improvements. We would like to believe that this is true, in
part, because we have shown to be good stewards of the funds entrusted to us by our
constituents. We can undoubtedly say that long-term financial strategic planning by our
leadership has been instrumental in allowing us to prioritize, fund and execute on the critical
technology projects needed to meet the growing needs of our students, teachers, staff and
community.
The 2016 Sales Tax Referendum provided the much-needed funding to address a backlog of
projects, a partial list of major initiatives partially or wholly funded by the Sales Tax monies
include:
● School & District Servers
● Wireless Infrastructure
● Back-End Infrastructure
● School Network Routers & Switches
● District-Wide Enterprise Phone System Replacement
Funding from the 2016 Sales Tax Referendum is projected to cap out in FY 2023, meaning we
will no longer have access to Sales Tax revenues for projects once the limit is reached. We’re
incredibly grateful for the support of the voters and citizens of Palm Beach County to allow us to
continue expanding and improving the educational experience through technology. Future
referendums will likely be needed in order to keep up with the rapid pace and demand for
technology and the supporting infrastructure.
