P. 67
Executive Overview
The District’s mission critical operations are managed by various enterprise systems and
custom software applications. These systems support student data management, food
service operations, facilities operations, work order management, HR functions, and
financial management. Enterprise systems, such as the Student Information System (SIS),
the District Enterprise Portal, PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and IBM
TRIRIGA Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) are browser-based and built
using efficient, high performing, and best-of-breed/industry-leading technologies.
Additionally, there are many custom-developed software applications in use throughout the
District.
People
The District has been successful in building a strong team of IT professionals to
deliver, support, maintain, and enhance its software applications. It is critical to
continue to maintain this high level of expertise in-house to provide consistent
availability and delivery of systems that are now depended upon for academic and
business success. Due to mobility of technology specialists, it is important to
continue to hire the right staff and to provide training and continuous education to
maintain this knowledge. Employee performance will be measured against the high
standards needed to maintain the productivity level that exists today.
Use of internal resources to keep District software applications up-to-date lowers
overall cost of ownership.
Training customers is key to full utilization of systems to increase efficiencies across
the District and will continue to be expanded to this end.
We will continually prioritize projects to ensure resources (people) are working on the
projects that are most important to the District.
Process
We will continue to adhere to the Software Design Lifecycle (SDLC) methodology
aligned with ITIL standards and best practices.
Business process redesign is a continuous improvement program that brings
efficiencies through the use of technology. This will be incorporated into the existing
issue tracking, work order, and resolution system.
Standardizing documentation across all technology areas continues to be a priority.
Technology
Upgrading software applications, as needed, to maintain vendor support, meet
customer requirements, to stay current with statutory and regulatory requirements,
and provide for new functionality is a key objective of the Department.
Some legacy applications continue to be supported and run on the mainframe.
Specialists will support migrating applications to store appropriate mainframe data
