Continued Hiring Requirements/Training
Annual Physical Exams (Bus Drivers only)
Operators must pass a physical exam as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and
the Departments of Education (DOE) with at least a three (3) month certification. The school
district’s Transportation Services Department may request a physical examination at any time.
Operators are responsible to renew DOT physical and/or dexterity test(s) prior to expiration and
must maintain a valid medical examiner certificate (MEC) at all times. Expired DOT physicals could
result in disciplinary action up to a recommendation for termination of employment.
Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Testing (Bus Drivers only)
Operators will be placed in random selection pools for drug and alcohol testing, as required by
D.O.T., D.O.E. and School Board Policy 3.961. All school board employees are to adhere to School
Board Policy 3.96 which allows for reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
Blood Borne Pathogen Training
All Attendants, Bus Drivers, and Radio Operators, Operator II’s and supervisors must take the Initial
Blood borne Pathogen training offered by the District. This group will be required to take a
refresher course annually. Please note, any employee certified as an Operator must also complete
this training.
Self Service
It is the responsibility and mandated of all Operators and Attendants to utilize Self Service in the
PeopleSoft program to update their personal information such as current address, personal phone
numbers and emergency contact information. You may view your paychecks, benefits, and direct
deposit information and resignation requests in this same location.
Evaluations
Operators and Attendants will receive a written evaluation annually. Other evaluations such as
on- the-bus evaluations, child safety equipment and wheelchair and wheelchair occupant
securement reviews and evaluations, may take place periodically and/or based on observations of
your performance by supervisors. Remedial training will be given as needed. An employee may
request a review of their performance and/or retraining at any time.
Accident Retraining
A minimum of two (2) hours of retraining may be required if a preventable accident or incident
has occurred. Retraining will be determined by the Operator’s Supervisor.
