Health Services Amid COVID-19
Amid the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Health Services continued to offer a variety of health trainings in
which staff members were trained under the guidance and training of licensed health professionals. Health
Services also coordinated in collaboration with the District’s contracted nursing agencies, student-specific
nursing training for staff members in the administration of medications and/or procedures to students. This
valuable relationship allowed a great number of students to remain in school while receiving appropriate
nursing care.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The School District of Palm Beach County established a Superintendent’s
Health Advisory Committee comprised of medical professionals, District personnel, and community leaders.
This Health Advisory Committee convened several times during FY21 to provide guidance to Superintendent
Donald E. Fennoy II - based on the most current COVID-19 data, guidelines, and recommendations from feder-
al, state, and local health and government entities. This collaboration contributed to the creation of COVID-19
protocols and procedures for students and staff, which resulted in schools and individual classrooms remain-
ing open for in-person learning during the 2020-2021 school year.
School Health Partners Collaborative Efforts to Mitigate the
Transmission of COVID-19 in the School District
In addition, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the School Health Partners and Florida Health Palm Beach Coun-
ty’s (FHPBC) Epidemiology Department initiated weekly debrief meetings during FY21 to collaborate on ef-
forts to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 in schools. These weekly meetings brought into discussions
updates on the COVID-19 virus including vaccination efforts, to review and suggest modifications to improve
District’s COVID-19 policies and practices that were able to reduce risk of transmission of COVID-19 among
administrators, staff, and students; and implemented plans for appropriate reporting of positive and/or expo-
sure cases.
Because of the collaboration between the School Health Partners and the FHPBC’s Epidemiology Department,
schools operated safely during FY21. As a result, the School District had no school or classroom closures.
