COMMUNITY
The School District of Palm Beach County has received several national awards for our wellness efforts. While
healthcare costs continue to climb, we are happy to report that the implemented programs are resulting
in improved health within the School District, helping to create cost savings. The District has been able to
maintain a 10-year medical trend of just over 1% annually (vs. the norm of 4.5%).
The Employee Wellness 5-year Strategic Plan was created in 2016 to set goals for improving employee health
and program success. The four goals established were: (1) Achieve a true workplace culture change, (2) Enhance
stakeholder morale and support, (3) Improve employee engagement and health responsibility, and (4) Decrease
high healthcare claim costs and shift risk levels.
A copy of the plan’s progress is available through Employee Wellness.
New goals are being created now, and will be available by Fall 2021.

Wellness Program Support
By implementing our successful wellness programs, the District is taking steps to ensure that resources are
maximized to provide a strong, healthy, happy and productive organization. By encouraging staff members
to pursue a healthy lifestyle, this, in turn contributes to improved health status, improved morale, and
a greater personal commitment to a culture of wellness and healthier school environment. In addition to
happier employees who have more energy and are less stressed which contributes to increased productivity,
the outcomes prove to be cost saving resulting in lower healthcare costs.
