Supporting Families
The District values the collaboration between parents and/or guardians, and school staff as instrumental in the
promotion of a positive environment for learning and developmental growth for their students. Following the
Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model, it is our goal to encourage families to participate
in the wellness initiative in our District to support students’ physical, social, behavioral, and emotional well-
being.
The Department of Multicultural Education serves to meet the language and academic needs of a
diverse student population of English Languages Learners (ELLs) who represents 16% of the total K-12
student population by providing families with resources that support learning and services offered
to meet the social and emotional needs of students and families. On May 24, 2022, new Ukrainian
families were invited to learn of the services provided by the District. One hundred of them were in
attendance where they received community resources and participated in a presentation provided by
Melissa Patterson (Director of the Department of Multicultural Education), Fred Barch (Director of Adult and
Community Education), and Dr. Juan Feliciano from the Department of Behavioral and Mental Health.
The Welcome Center at the School District of Palm Beach County’s Fulton-Holland Educational Services Center
has been an instrumental resource for all newcomers moving into Palm Beach County. They welcome families
of new K-12 students whose first language is not English or who were born or attended school outside of the
United States. The goal of the Welcome Center is to support these students and their families by facilitating a
smooth transition to Palm Beach County schools.
During their visit, families are provided with services such as:
Student registrations
Appropriate grade level placement
Interpretations transcripts
Evaluation of school transcripts
