        McKinney-Vento Program (MVP) - Homelessness

The McKinney-Vento Program (MVP), the District’s Homeless Education Program, consists of the Program
Planner, Homeless Liaison, Academic Support Specialist, and MVP Case Managers. The MVP team supports
homeless children and youth throughout the District, including unaccompanied homeless youth. They also
ensure the educational rights of children and youth provided by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance
Act are upheld. The amendments to the McKinney-Vento Act went into effect on October 1, 2016.

MVP removes or overcomes the barriers and obstacles often faced by homeless children and youth in enrolling,
attending, and succeeding in school through the provision of services and supports at the school, district,
and community level. Program staff work collaboratively with schools, district departments, and community
social service agencies to maximize access to various educational, social, and enrichment programs needed
to promote the academic success and achievement of homeless children and youth.
