In an effort to uphold the District’s mission that all students graduate from high school, AmeriCorps Graduation Coaches, Small Learning Communities (SLC) College Bound Coaches and High School Graduation Initiative Graduation Coaches provided mentoring and support services to 2,000 high school students during the 2012-2013 school year. The coaches worked in collaboration with other stakeholders in 10 comprehensive high schools to improve student attendance, monitor academic performance, remove barriers to graduation, and make students aware of post-secondary options. As a result of these services, many students at risk of not graduating were supported in meeting graduation requirements, earning standard high school diplomas, and matriculated into post-secondary college and career opportunities.
