17Hiring Initiative SFS prioritizes fully staffing our kitchens and administrative offices and works to reduce our vacancy rate annually. By focusing on filling Food Service Assistant positions, we significantly reduced vacancies from 132 (8.51%) to 72 (4.64%), a nearly 50% decrease. We continued to look for ways to improve our hiring process and reduce the amount of time for a candidate to receive an offer and begin working. By leveraging Lean Six Sigma DMAIC principles (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), we identified a key area for improvement: the time-consuming process of processing candidate applications and requirements through multiple individuals in the District HR Department. Eliminating this step saved time and streamlined the hiring process. We further optimized the hiring process by assuming some responsibilities traditionally handled by the District HR team.Recruitment EffortsTo expand our candidate pool, we posted job opportunities on Indeed, a global job site for both recruiters and candidates, in addition to our internal District employment platform. We also improved our ability to attract talent by using hospitality-related job titles instead of institutional ones in our SFS job postings. Platforms like Indeed, where many job seekers search for opportunities, are a crucial part of our SFS recruitment strategy.In conjunction with other District departments, SFS participated in 27 job fairs throughout Palm Beach County. These included the District-wide Team Palm Beach job fair at the South Florida Fairgrounds and monthly job fairs hosted in various locations by the District%u2019s Operations Division.As we explore non-traditional recruitment strategies, we participated in the Showcase of Schools event on October 17, 2023. Prospective parents could meet with our recruitment representatives and learn more about career opportunities within SFS.
