Throughout the year, we worked closely with our vendor, Heartland School Solutions, to upgrade our back-of-house school cafeteria software system to MCS Edison. This necessary upgrade positioned us to manage our back-of-house SFS operations with increased efficiency and continued fidelity to Federal and State guidelines. MCS Edison, with its enhanced administrative and financial tools, will help us reduce waste and operating costs by providing data-driven insights for better decision-making and program management. This integrated system will streamline our menu planning, ordering, inventory, and bid management processes. Edison Go-Live will take place at the beginning of FY25. Phase II of our upgrade project, scheduled for FY25-FY26, will focus on MCS Newton, a front-of-house point of sale (POS) system designed to streamline register checkout and improve efficiency and accuracy in meal counting, claiming, and reporting.Point of Sale UpgradeIn preparation for our MCS Newton software upgrade, we initiated a two-year rollout of new touchscreen POS units in school cafeterias. These units allow us to keep our serving lines moving quickly by seamlessly integrating with our scanners, enabling students to quickly scan their identification cards for processing. We completed the installation of 231 POS units across 71 school sites and will continue Phase II in FY25. SFS Meal Service Program DashboardIn FY24 we launched our SFS Program Dashboard, an interactive data tool allowing our Cafeteria Managers and administrative staff to track the number of meals served in the District as a whole or by individual school sites. The Dashboard has been an invaluable asset to Cafeteria Managers, enabling them to track their progress throughout the year and make adjustments as needed to increase participation at their schools. Following our MCS Newton upgrade in FY25-FY26, our Dashboard will integrate additional data to provide food and labor costs, allowing Managers to easily access this information at the touch of a button and facilitate improved data driven decision making.Payroll Process ImprovementsFY24 saw the culmination of a two year Lean Six Sigma Green Belt project to improve our SFS Summer payroll processes. Using Lean Six Sigma tools, we were able to identify areas of inefficiency and waste and make appropriate changes to effectuate improved Summer employee payroll setup, time tracking, and reporting. Our efforts resulted in a 63% offset in labor cost and a 41% reduction in labor hours.
