Commitment to Healthy Learning and Working Environment

The District supports an unwavering commitment to providing healthy learning and working environments. One example of
this commitment occurred two weeks before the start of the FY23 school year at Pahokee MS when a third-floor equipment
failure caused flooding and $238,380.33 of significant water damage to over 6,000 linear feet of drywall in classrooms,
offices, hallways, and ancillary support rooms.
The Department of Environmental & Conservation Services immediately deployed a cadre of staff resources, materials, and
vendor support to conduct an emergency response remediation and restoration effort in response to this incident. This
effort included a 4-day shutdown of the school’s main electrical switchgear and air conditioning system and 1,271 labor
hours. Despite the project’s significant size and scope, the team was able to fully restore the space before the first day of the
        new school year.
