Operations Hiring Initiatives

During FY23, School Food Service (SFS) embarked on a hiring initiative that decreased the number of open positions
from 206 vacancies (14.3%) to 89 vacancies (6.2%). Using the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC principles (define, measure, analyze,
improve, control), SFS identified where candidates got delayed in the hiring process and implemented new approaches to
address those delays. This decreased the average time between a candidate receiving a job offer and starting their first day.
To improve the hiring process, SFS utilized platforms other than PeopleSoft to attract candidates. Platforms such as Indeed,
where many job seekers were searching for their next opportunity, became an essential part of the SFS recruitment strategy.
SFS improved upon its success by utilizing hospitality terms for job titles rather than institutional terms. This resulted in
the hiring of 56 candidates from Indeed.

SFS also worked with other departments in the
District and participated in the District-wide
Team Palm Beach (formerly, Teach Palm Beach)
job fair at the South Florida Fairgrounds as well as
monthly job fairs held by the Operations Division.
SFS has attended 13 job fairs and had booths at
Spookyville and the South Florida Fair. The
