ISTE Standards

The School District of Palm Beach County has adopted the
                                                         2
ISTE Standards for Teaching and Learning and is working to
train and support all stakeholders to advance the effective
               use of classroom technology.

These standards promote the evolution of a digital-age
learning environment for all learners. Specifically, the ISTE
                                      3
Standards for Students lay the foundation for a constructivist
approach where students contribute to defining their
individual learning path and construct their own learning from
               experiences.

The ISTE Standards for Students are as follows:
                                   4
                   ● Empowered Learner
                   ● Digital Citizen
                   ● Knowledge Constructor
                   ● Innovative Designer
                   ● Computational Thinker
                   ● Creative Communicator
                   ● Global Collaborator

               Digital Citizenship

The School District of Palm Beach County complies with the Children’s
Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act,
and Florida Statute 1006.147 through District Policy 8.123 Technology
Acceptable Use Policy for Students and the development of the Tech-Safe
Program. The TechSafe program uses Common Sense Education curriculum
along with materials from Google, Be Internet Awesome, NetSmartz, and
                                 BrainPOP.

These resources are kept on a district website at TechSafe.palmbeachschools.org. This website
provides lessons required by schools to implement throughout the school year to comply with
the above directives. The Tech Safe website provides point-of-contact training on implementing
the program at the schools. Each principal designates how the lessons are implemented at the
school site with an emphasis on student discussion.

In addition to the required lessons, the Department of Educational Technology has worked with
other departments including Library Media Services, Teaching & Learning, and Information
Technology to develop other training to promote and integrate digital citizenship throughout the
school year. These trainings focus on self–awareness, self-management, responsible
decision-making, relationship skills, and social awareness.
