Florida Humanities Grant
ECS received in FY21 a grant from Florida
Humanities to host a traveling museum exhibit
from the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street
(MoMS) program. “Water/Ways” is part of MoMS,
a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian
Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES),
state humanities councils across the nation, and
local host in stitutions. “Water/Ways” explores the
relationship between people and water. It explores
the centrality of water in our lives including its
effect on the environment and climate, its practical
role in agriculture and economic planning, and its
impact on culture.
ECS will partner with Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in Belle Glade, Florida to host the exhibit during its tour
of Florida. The exhibit will be in FY22 in Palm Beach County from January 8 – February 26 , 2022. Supporting
th
th
programs will include guest speakers, film showing and field trips. Community partners include Loggerhead
Marinelife Center, Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN), and the University of Florida’s Scientist in Every

Galaxy Scrub Preserve City of Boynton Beach
ECS is committed to supporting the use of outdoor
classrooms and environmental education to uphold
the District’s Wellness Promotion Policy (2.035) and the
Sustainable Schools initiative. In partnership with the
City of Boynton Beach, ECS has been providing input and
guidance on the restoration of the Galaxy Scrub, which
is located next to Galaxy E3 Elementary. As part of the
2012 Scrub Interlocal Agreement with the City of Boynton
Beach, the District can use the preservation property to
further environmental education, stewardship, research
and curriculum to serve students. In order to enhance
the education and operational efficiency of the scrub’s
nature trail for students and teachers to use, ECS designed
interpretive nature signs.
These were designed with input from the City of Boynton Beach, the Sierra Club Loxahatchee Group, Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and Galaxy’s Principal and Green Champion Teacher.
