Indoor Air Quality
Environmental and Conservation Services’ (ECS) Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) program is an integral component of
the department’s mission to provide healthy, sustainable, learning and working environments for all students,
staff and visitors to District facilities.
The IAQ program provides services directly to school centers through IAQ assessments and environmental
remediation projects related to hazards such as water damage, mold, odors, infectious disease, fire, flood
response, and natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornados, heavy inundations, and/or localized flooding.
During the FY21, IAQ staff completed a total of 555 IAQ inspections, of which 474 IAQ projects were required
In total, 172 schools and 18 facilities were inspected.
ECS staff completed 474 IAQ projects utilizing 5 consultants and 6 contractors.
ECS staff coordinated fourteen (14) asbestos abatements, five (5) demolitions and assisted in the demolition
of several Facility Construction projects. Asbestos inspections were conducted at twenty-three (23) schools;
each of the twenty-three schools were inspected twice in FY21.
ECS developed the District’s Infectious Disease Plan and Chairs the District’s Infectious Disease Committee. In
FY 21, ECS provided enhanced sanitizing services for infectious diseases including COVID-19 incidents using
contractors and consultants.
